Launched in 2020, Xbox Cloud Gaming is part of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

Game Pass Ultimate is an all-in-one gaming service that offers a massive library of games, cloud streaming capabilities, and online multiplayer—all under a single plan. Think of it as the Netflix of Xbox games—play anywhere, on nearly any device, without needing an Xbox console. Subscribers can access hundreds of high-quality games across Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, and via Xbox Cloud Gaming on smartphones, tablets, TVs, and even the Steam Deck.

To get started, you’ll need to install Microsoft Edge, as Xbox Cloud Gaming runs through a browser. Since the Steam Deck operates on Linux, installing Edge requires a few extra steps beyond a simple download.

To begin, switch your Steam Deck to Desktop Mode by tapping the Steam button, then go to Power and select "Switch to Desktop." After a few moments, you will see the standard desktop interface.

Next, open the Discover Software Center by selecting the shopping bag icon on the taskbar. You can search for Microsoft Edge by typing its name in the search bar (press Steam + X to bring up the keyboard) or by navigating to Applications > Internet > Web Browsers. Once found, click "Install" to add it to your system.

After installation, Microsoft Edge needs to be added to your Steam Library to be easily accessible in Gaming Mode.

Follow the steps listed down below:

1. Open the Application Launcher on the bottom left, locate Microsoft Edge and right-click 
2. Select "Add to Steam" to bring up the "Add a Game" window 
3. Then check the box next to Microsoft Edge and confirm by clicking "Add Selected Programs." 
4. Lastly, Rename the Shortcuts in Microsoft Edge Shortcuts to “Xbox Cloud Gaming”

Now it will show up in your Steam Library when you're in Gaming Mode in the Non-Steam games under the name Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Before launching Xbox Cloud Gaming, a few additional configurations are necessary. First, you'll need to grant Edge the correct file access permissions. Open the Application Launcher again and search for Konsole (found under "System"). Open it and enter the following command:

flatpak --user override --filesystem=/run/udev:ro com.microsoft.Edge

Press Enter to execute the command. To exit the terminal, type exit and then hit Enter again.

Now, let’s move onto the most important part. In order for Edge to open and correctly display the Xbox Cloud Gaming web page when you open the shortcut. You’ll need to adjust the launch options so Edge automatically opens Xbox Cloud Gaming in an optimized view.

In Steam, locate Microsoft Edge in your Library, right-click it, and go to Properties. In the Launch Options field, append the following command after @@U @@: 

--window-size=1024,640 --force-device-scale-factor=1.25 --device-scale-factor=1.25 --kiosk "https://www.xbox.com/play"

With this configuration, launching Microsoft Edge from Steam will now directly open Xbox Cloud Gaming in full-screen mode, making it feel like a native app on your Steam Deck!

With the help of Decky Loader, it’ll be way easier to change the artwork of the now newly named Xbox Cloud Gaming cover. Just make sure that you have the Steam Grid DB plugin ready. Once you have that, go into change artwork and properties.

If you named the app “Xbox Cloud Gaming” before, it will preload all the different Icons and all you have to do is select the one you like the most!

After that, your Xbox Cloud Gaming will officially be set up and ready to be played!
